Who is Kordelya and why do you dedicate yourself to music?

I'm a Mexican girl born in Houston that likes to write and produce music. Finishing a song for the first time, playing it live for the first time, and getting to connect with new people that also went through the same thing I did when I wrote the song is why I do what I do. Music is kind of my way of keeping a journal. Every time I look back on a song, it takes me back to that moment in my life. I remember every single detail way more clearly than with a photo or video, and I think that is a very powerful thing. What is the origin of the sound that lives within your music?

My curiosity is kind of a form of ADHD when it comes to experimenting. I am highly disorganized when it comes to music. I have accumulated thousands of playlists of songs I like, thousands of samples in hard drives, weird instruments and synths, but I somehow always find my way in my web of chaos to have fun with it and produce something I feel happy to listen to and share with you.

Tell us a bit more in detail the process of recording your latest single Consentido.

The first thing that came a long was the steel pans. It is one of my favorite instruments, it always makes me feel like I'm on a beach somewhere drinking margaritas, and then there is the scuba diver (Darth Vader) sound at the beginning which was a fun addition to that vibe. It also felt kind of nice to contrast that ocean mood with a thick bass. When it comes to the vocals, this is the first song that the first melody I came up with became a background vocal, which I found interesting. The beat was almost finished and the first thing that popped into my head was "Mi consentido" melody you hear in the background of the chorus. The formats of that section where lowered to make it sound like a man's voice to contrast the main vocals. After that, it was kind of like making a puzzle, I wrote the verse first, recorded a scratch take, then the chorus, recorded that, and so on. In the end, I recorded a few takes of the full song to bring pieces together, which is what you hear now.

Who do you consider as an inspiration to your art?

My friends and the news. I like writing about stories, and what people go through around me. "Consentido" for example is about the human tendency of obsession, and how we all have our favorite thing or our Consentido. It fascinating how seemed to come up a lot in conversation of whether that represents a person, object, or a substance. How do you manage to control those moments of doubt?

Some of us might have been taught that you have to control the doubt, ignore or hide it. But I’ve sometimes felt that its important to also embrace those moments of doubt, so that you are able to then appreciate and recognize those moments of victory. It’s an amazing feeling to realize you’ve just proven your own doubts wrong.

What’s the best advice you’ve been giving lately?

Remember when you could only dream of having what you have today.
