Mac DeMarco embraced us with a sublime intimate acoustic concert at The Tobin Center's Will Naylor Smith River Walk Plaza. It felt like a Vh1 storytellers episode, because behind almost every song he played, he would have a story about it. Stories about a cat being run over by a car, him and his girlfriend living in his parent’s basement during the winter , him teaching elderly Vietnamese students on how to use a computer. Very peculiar stuff had to happen for us to have his songs. From Salad Days hits to This Old Dog jams, the night was cherished with an emotional connection between Mac and his fans. One girl fainted, another asked Mac to dedicate a song to her, and there was this guy who thanked Mac for his music, because without it he wouldn't have met his girlfriend. The love was so immense that one fan jumped on stage to hug Mac, telling him that he hitched-hiked all the way from Idaho (or Iowa?) just to come to see his gig. But the fan's fun was over when security escorted him out of the concert, and this was just four songs into the set. The show ended with two of his best songs, "My Kind of Woman" and "Still Together". And of course there was an encore, "Watching Him Fade Away", played on his keyboard with a chorus effect. When he got off stage, many fans tried to get his attention, but he calmly waved to them and left. This was Mac DeMarco's first show in San Antonio, TX, a SOLD OUT one to be exact. We hope to be seeing face around here again.
